Then the old man’s son started training the horse for riding, but he was thrown and broke his leg. The old man’s reply? “We’ll see.”Īs the story goes, the horse came back with another wild horse, and the neighbors quickly switched to remarking how good and lucky that was! The old man’s reply? “We’ll see.” I highly suggest reading this book if you haven’t done so already! There’s a second book that I am currently reading so stay tuned for the book review when I finish it.I love the old zen story about the farmer who’s neighbors thought it was a bad, unlucky thing that his horse ran away. If I do so, I am able to give a lot more, I am able to love and I am able to fulfill my life’s purpose. I want to finish this blog post with this sentence because it was something that really came to light for me during my vacation – it didn’t really matter what was going on in my life – I could choose to be happy without any reason at anytime. Then you can love, and do what you will.” “Act happy, be happy, without a reason in the world. I know that I get caught up in what happened in the past or thinking about what’s ahead in the future, but when I am able to be present and focus on the now everything seems to slow down – almost like being in the zone. “Remember, the time is now and the place is here.” This, to me, is super insightful! A lot of times we take things for granted, but if we treat each occasion and interaction as if it were the most important of our existence, one can only imagine how unbelievable our lives could be! From time to time I get caught up in everything that is going on in my life and I find it challenging to slow down my thoughts but when I have some down time and actually meditate I find myself surrendering and able to allow life to unfold which seems to flow much better. One of the other things I noticed is the ability to quiet my mind when I meditate. The other is surrender – letting go of attachment to arising thoughts.” “Meditation consists of two simultaneous processes: One is insight – paying attention to what is arising. When I do it regularly, I definitely feel more calm, centered, balanced and able to deal with what life demands of me, which I suppose is my awareness expanding. Meditation is something that I have wanted to incorporate into my daily routines but have never been able to do consistently. “Finally, I realized the process of real meditation – to expand awareness, to direct attention, to ultimately surrender to the light of consciousness.” At the time, it didn’t make sense, but after awhile we are able to shed light on the experience and expand our awareness of how that’s helped us become who we are. What happens to us may not always make sense, whether good or bad, and sometimes it takes us a lot longer to realize why something turned out the way it did. “Then I knew that awareness is how the human being experiences the light of consciousness.” The following are some highlights from the book that were great takeaways for me and a little insight on why they resonated for me. I knew that if I read the book there would be more to it that wasn’t covered in the movie and it held true as there were some great takeaways. It was suggested to me by more than one person to read “Way of the Peaceful Warrior” by Dan Millman I had seen the movie and remember liking it. I had the opportunity to go on vacation recently to Hawaii and before I left I knew I needed a good book to read. Way Of The Peaceful Warrior – A book by Dan Millman
